When old, historic buildings avoid destruction by being transformed into something new and invigorating for the community, you know we are doing something right as a society. The church of Santa Barbara in Llanera, Asturias, was originally built over 100 years ago, yet had become crumbling and near-forgotten. The collective Church Brigade teamed up with Red Bull to remodel the space into a hip skate park called Kaos Temple. The final touch was bringing in famed artist Okuda San Miguel to paint every square inch of the interior with bright, geometric shapes, breathing life into the reimagined space.

The Principality of Asturias is found in northwest Spain and is just one of many international sites where Okuda has splashed his imaginative color creations and left lasting impressions. He has created masterpieces of varying heights and media, yet describes truly being in his “cloud” when high up on a crane, plugged into his music, and painting his works.
Thanks to a crowdfunding campaign and the support of Red Bull, the project had enough funds to make the final product truly remarkable. After a week of painting the Kaos Temple was ready to impress both professional and amateur skaters. A refreshing blend of old and contemporary, Okuda wants people to know that this skate park is a destination for everyone: art aficionados, history buffs, skaters, and anyone with a healthy curiosity.
