Are you contemplating buying an electric car, but not sure if it’s for you? Well you will soon be able to test drive one at a Chevrolet dealership near you! Chevrolet dealerships in the car’s initial launch markets of California, Connecticut, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Virginia and Washington, D.C. will be receiving dedicated Volt demonstration vehicles for customer test drives over the next few weeks, according to a statement released by the company.

“We know the best way to experience the Volt is to get behind the wheel and drive it. Now dealers will have the ability to allow consumers to form their own opinions of the Volt through test drives and demonstrations,” said Cristi Landy, Chevrolet marketing director. Approximately 550 cars will be available during the first quarter of this year, and by the end of the year more than 2,500 Volt’s will be delivered.

The hope is that the cars will help educate customers about electric vehicles and disseminate several myths about EVs. The Chevrolet Volt is expected to hit markets across the country by the end of this year. The Volt is estimated to cost $40,000 without government subsidies and has a total driving range of up to 379 miles, based on EPA estimates (the car goes 35 miles on a pure electric battery, before the gas engine kicks in).
