Cork is very flexible and it is also quite strong. The creatives at Carlos Ortega Design wanted to apply the versatile material to their new furniture designs and so they created a series of CORKIGAMI chairs inspired by the Japanese art of paper folding. Their cool seats aim to take the properties of cork to the limit by bending and pressing sheets of 4mm thick cork into curvaceous shapes for a truly modern form. The resulting pieces are stunning shell structures that are not only strong enough to support the body, but also visually appealing, lightweight, and green!
