Deloitte's new Amsterdam headquarters just achieved a landmark in the world of green building by scoring the highest BREEAM rating ever! The project's 98.36 score beats out One Embankment Place in London, making it one of the world's greenest office buildings. Dubbed The Edge, the new building was designed by London-based PLP Architecture and it features 4,100 square meters of rooftop solar panels and Philips' Ethernet-powered LED connecting lighting.
PLP Architecture designed The Edge for OVG Real Estate, and Deloitte is the building’s lead tenant. The project is one of the most innovative and energy-efficient commercial buildings in the world. The building achieved the highest BREEAM rating in its category thanks to its huge rooftop solar array, its innovative lighting solutions, and its energy-efficient systems. The certification recognizes buildings designed, constructed and operated to meet the highest sustainability standards.
Inside the building, a 15-story atrium allows natural lighting to permeate the workspaces. The Edge is the first development to use Philips’ Ethernet-powered connected LED lighting, which enables users to control the lighting and climate at their desk area using a smart phone. Sensors embedded into the lights are able to capture anonymous data about carbon dioxide levels, temperature and humidity. The system also helps employees navigate the building-the lights transmit encoded data to mobile devices.
