Every year, 6.9 million children under five die from causes that have known cures. To help remedy this alarming statistic, UNICEF – along with The City University of New York (CUNY) – has launched the 2013 “Design for UNICEF” Challenge, a call for creative thinking and innovative solutions to improve child survival globally. The Challenge – open to all 270,000 students at CUNY’s 24 colleges and schools – calls for teams to design solutions to problems associated with the top killers of children worldwide. Solutions can be new products, new technologies, improvements to existent technologies or processes, or policies or strategies to achieve improvements at the system level. Three winning teams will have the opportunity to travel to a developing country to test their project with UNICEF. Entrants must register by April 5th. Submissions are due June 30th.
