Designers around the world are successfully reclaiming and revitalizing waterfronts into stunning mixed use spaces—and now it’s your turn. The 2016 International Sustainable Waterfront Design Competition invites all students and experienced designers, working individually or in teams of up to five, to submit their ideas for a “sustainable waterfront.” Participants will need to design a mid-rise, mixed-use complex near a water body (of the participant’s choosing) with an affordable cost budget. The conceptual drawings must be paired with a brief essay, written in English with 500 words maximum. The total prize pool is $20,000. Late registration ends March 31, 2016 and the submission deadline is April 30, 2016.

The evaluation process should be an integral part of the design process, encouraging designers or students to scrutinize their work in a manner similar to that of the jury. The final result of the design process will be a submission of up to four presentation boards describing the design solution. In addressing the specific issues of the design challenge, submissions must clearly demonstrate the design solution’s response to the following requirements.
