The [Imagine Downtown] Lafayette design competition is now open for submissions! The competition, created by Creative Action, invites individuals, students, and professionals to submit new concepts for six sites located in downtown Lafayette, LA. Each of the six sites has a unique set of strengths, weaknesses and opportunities. Participants must select one of these sites and propose specific solutions to its particular challenges. The goal is to invigorate the urban core while also uniting surrounding neighborhoods to create a 24-hour community. Site considerations should include increasing affordable residential and mixed-use density; accommodating parking needs; reinforcing existing plazas, parks and streetscapes; strengthening pedestrian and bikeway connectivity to surrounding neighborhoods and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s main campus; facilitating public transportation; and developing a sustainable urban condition. Register by January 8, 2013 and submit your entry by January 15, 2013. The best design will be awarded a $1,500 cash prize.
