Sponsored by Dutch Design Week and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and InnovationThe Green Design Competition is an opportunity for entrepreneurs in the design industry to create a new product that sustains biodiversity. Applicants to the competition can be individuals, teams or recently established brands based anywhere in the world. They should be able to design a product (which will significantly contribute to sustaining biodiversity, either by concept, design and production, or usage) and have entrepreneurial aspirations within the design industry. The Green Design Competition stretches over a period of ten months, closing in July 2012. Prizes of up to €25,000 will be awarded to various entries.

Registration for TGDC (individually or as a team) is open until February 10th, 2012. Participants are required to design a product and write a business plan. The 'green' character can be implicit in either or both its concept, its use and functionality or in the production. Conditions and additional information is available on the official website.


The participants’ plans and designs will be assessed by a jury throughout the competition, on basis of their contribution to biodiversity, the innovative aspects and originality. The jury is looking for a design that has the potential to succeed in the consumer market and which propagates a clear vision for biodiversity conservation.
