The Singapore Building and Construction Authority (BCA), together with the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) and Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) have recently launched the 4th annual International Tropical Architecture Design Competition for Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL Competition). Designed to coincide with Singapore Green Week in the beginning of September, the student competition follows the theme of “Our Urban Green Home” and seeks innovative and sustainable design solutions to greening residential buildings in urban tropical environments. In addition to cash prizes, the winners will have the opportunity to present their designs at the International Green Building Conference. All interested parties must register by June 15, 2014.

1st Prize SGD 5,000, 2nd Prize SGD 3,000, 3rd Prize SGD 2,000, Merit Prize (x2) SGD 800, The 5 Finalists will be invited to Singapore (flight and accommodation covered for one representative per team) to present their works at the Final Judging and attend the International Green Building Conference (01-03 Sep 2014).


Entries should be applicable for the tropical climate and showcase innovative and sustainable designs. They should also show how the proposed home can integrate with the surrounding environment and landscape. The competition is opened to tertiary students from all around the world and accepts both team and individual participation.
