Redesign Burning Man’s town plan in the Black Rock City competitionDecember 31st, 2015

Burning Man, Burning Man competition, Black Rock City, Black Rock City urban planning, urban planning competition, Black Rock City Ministry of Urban Planning, pop up town, ephemeral city, Black Rock City design

The weeklong Burning Man arts festival changes themes every year, but the layout of its pop-up town—Black Rock City, Nevada—does not. Black Rock City Ministry of Urban Planning has launched a competition that could finally change the event’s iconic radial design. The international call for ideas invites visionaries of all skill levels to redesign the ephemeral desert city, with the possibility of implementation. The competition is split into two stages, with the first stage requiring a single page rendering of the design and a brief statement about the intent and ideas for further development. The top 10 entries will advance to the second stage, where entrants will be invited to develop detailed street level designs. The winning design will be put on display and may be used in future Burning Man events. The submission deadline is December 31, 2015.
