Play Everywhere Challenge, kid-friendly design, kid-friendly ‘public space, kaboom, kaboom competition, child-friendly design

Got an idea to incorporate play in public space? If so, submit it to the Play Everywhere Challenge, a national competition that’s awarding $1 million to make cities more kid-friendly through innovative and playful design. Open to any U.S. resident, non-profit, or government agency who has an idea for turning everyday places—like sidewalks or vacant lots—into play spaces across America, the competition seeks replicable and scalable designs that can improve health and well-being of kids, especially those in low-income neighborhoods. The deadline for submissions is May 31, 2016. Chosen winners will be granted prize money and given three months to implement their projects.

Winning ideas will receive a share of $1 million. Prize amounts will fall within the following ranges: Small Scale [$500-$5,000], Medium Scale [$5,001-$25,000], and Large Scale [$25,001-$50,000]. Prizes will be determined after the finalist phase and will depend on project budgets and available funding. Large scale awards will be highly competitive with a maximum award of $50,000.



Finalist and winning ideas will be reviewed and selected by panels of a wide range of experts in economic development, tactical urbanism, behavior change, placemaking, and play.
