CreativeMornings is a monthly breakfast lecture series held in NYC for creative types. The speaker for the Friday May 20 CreativeMorning meet-up is Maria Popova, the founder and editor in chief of Brain Pickings, a curated cabinet of cross-disciplinary interestingness. She writes about design, culture and social good for Wired UK, Design Observer and The Atlantic, among others, and is an MIT Futures of Entertainment fellow. Maria is the first to admit she spends far, far too much time on Twitter as @brainpicker.
CreativeMornings was founded by SwissMiss, a design blog and studio run by Tina Roth Eisenberg. There are now monthly CreativeMornings in Zurich, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Speakers at previous New York CreativeMornings include design legend Milton Glaser and ImprovEverywhere founder Charlie Todd.
Each event includes a 15-20 minute lecture, followed by a 20-minute group discussion. The gathering begins at 8:30am with the topic presentation starting at 9:00am and everyone taking off for work at 10am. CreativeMornings are free of charge and include a yummy breakfast.
