For five days in the beginning of May, Downtown New York will be transformed into a dynamic creative environment for the first ever Festival of Ideas for the New City. The event will bring together scores of downtown organizations, from large universities to arts groups and community organizations, in locations around Downtown Manhattan in an area spanning East to West including the Lower East Side, the East Village, Soho, Nolita, and Chinatown.
The goal of the festival is to harness the power of the creative community to imagine the future and explore the ideas destined to shape it. It will serve as a platform for artists, architects, designers, and other thought leaders to exchange ideas, propose solutions, and invite the public to participate. Organizations like the Storefront for Art and Architecture, the New Museum, The Drawing Center, and the Cooper Union are all participating.
The first three days of the festival will be filled with symposiums, lectures, and workshops, hosted by world-class artists, architects, and visionaries. Over the last two days, more than 80 independent projects, exhibitions, and performances will expand the festivals scope. On Saturday, May 7, there will be a minimal-waste outdoor StreetFest on the Bowery.
