Freshkills Park Talks: Stories of Labor, Stories of Change

Date & Time

START: 7:00 PM May 9, 2011
END: 9:00 PM May 9, 2011

Description

Freshkills Park, in collaboration with the New York City Department of Sanitation, New York University, and Columbia University, have come together to present a fascinating new view of park of New York City history. In the past five months, a team of historians have studied sanitation initiatives in Freshkills Park. Having interviewed citizens, engineers, and sanitation workers about the labors of waste in NYC, they have gathered a volume of information on one of the most ambitious sanitation projects in the past 150 in NYC. Until now, there has been no other extensive research, which brings together a new perspective of NYC history, combining environmental sustainability and a spreading awareness on NYC green initiatives.

Come join the discussion Monday, May 9, and participate in discovering a new part of NYC history. For more details please email [email protected] or call (212) 788-8277.
