For the third year, Makers Market returns to Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City, Queens. The outdoor market is one of New York’s premiere events to meet contemporary American designs and experience design and crafts. The skillfully curated shop has one-of-a-kind products from more than 50 makers, including ceramics, turned wood bowls, glassware, motorcycles, knives, tableware, jewelry, baskets, furniture, lighting, textiles, surfboards and more. The Market, which has been curated by Alan Wanzenberg Architect/ Design, The Noguchi Museum, R 20th Century, and Socrates Sculpture Park with an emphasis on design excellence, technical expertise and quality of materials.
Highlights of the 2011 Market will include a moderated panel discussion entitled, Craft, Community, and Commerce, hosted by The Noguchi Museum and free with museum admission; and the Socrates Academy workshop, Felt Making with Hope Ginsburg, in which participants will explore the creative possibilities of working with felt.
