Moveable Feast: Fresh Produce and the NYC Green Cart Program Exhibit

Date & Time

START: 10:00 AM March 22, 2011
END: 5:00 PM July 10, 2011

The Museum of the City of New York is currently exhibiting Moveable Feast, a photography show documenting NYC’s Green Cart Program. The innovative program, organized by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, provides underserved communities with access to fresh fruits and vegetables via hundreds of independently owned, mobile produce stands.

Photographers LaToya Ruby Frazier, Thomas Holton, Gabriele Stabile, Will Steacy, and Shen Wei were commissioned by The Aperture Foundation to take original photos of the carts over the course of a year. Their work chronicles not only the food stands, but also the stories of the vendors, costumers, and communities served by the program. Moveable Feast brings to light the connection between a community’s health as a result of its geography, and readily available food options.
