Re-Green The World in Times Square: Help Plant a Virtual Forest!

Date & Time

START: 12:00 PM April 22, 2011
END: 1:00 PM April 22, 2011

Description

Earth Day New York along with the Green World Campaign, will launch an initiative to “Re-Green the World.” Earth Day New York will dedicate an hour of its live programming and public service time on its Times Square partner screens to the Green World Campaign’s innovative cell phone initiative inviting people to “text TREE” to fund global tree-planting. Bystanders will experience the Green World Campaigns impressive motion graphics of animated leaves and branches billowing across Times Square screens operated by Toshiba, NASDAQ, Reuters, MTV, CBS and CNN, turning the urban environment into a virtual forest at regular intervals.

A one- time donation of $5 will be debited from their cell phone bill to fund the planting of five trees on corrupted land from Kenya to Mexico. Between 12pm and 1pm, the total number of trees being funded via “text TREE” donations will be periodically displayed in real-time on the Toshiba screens. This will help restore the ecology and economy of some of the worlds poorest places and supports the United Nations Year of Forests 2011.
