Tour NYC’s First Certified Passive House

Date & Time

START: 10:00 AM October 7, 2012
END: 1:00 PM October 7, 2012

Don’t miss your chance to visit Tighthouse, the first certified Passive House in NYC this weekend. The architectural designer will be on hand to explain Passive House concepts and detailing. The Tighthouse meets stringent Passive House requirements and serves a model for urban, eco-friendly renovations of existing housing stock. The building was built in 1899 and was renovated in 2012 to operate with 90% less heating energy and 75% less energy overall. It is outfitted with solar thermal and photovoltaic panels as well as a rainwater collection system. The interior is modern and brings natural light into all parts of the home through large high-performance windows and skylights. The light fixtures utilize only retrofit LED bulbs or T5 fluorescents and the owner hopes to reach as close to net zero energy as possible.

There are 3 tour times to choose from: 10am, 11am and 1pm.
