Blue Marble‘s two locations feature many special elements beyond their award-winning organic ice cream. The stores have a waste-not-want-not policy and try to use as many biodegradable, compostable and recycled materials as possible. The stores run on 75 percent hydro and 25 percent wind energy and rely heavily on reclaimed and non-toxic building materials. Then of course, there’s the product: considered to be one of the best ice creams in New York, Blue Marble Ice Cream is made on a nearby farm with local, grass-fed dairy, and you can taste it! If you’re going to have to feel bad about calories, you may as well not have to worry about your carbon footprint. If the taste and quality of the cream hasn’t sold you, check out the owners’ nonprofit, Blue Marble Dreams, a sustainable, community-oriented ice cream shop in Butare, Rwanda. That’s right, Rwanda’s first ice cream shop! Come for the ice cream, stay for the love.
