Along with offering a rigorous education, Cooper Union boasts one of the coolest locations in town: it’s smack dab in the middle of the East Village. It has been around since 1859 and started as one man’s dream to offer free education to the disenfranchised. The university is dedicated to giving the highest quality of education in art, architecture and engineering, with an emphasis on sustainable thinking. The Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture at The Cooper Union offers a five-year program leading to the Bachelor of Architecture. The school hosts frequent public events, often focusing on green building and design.
