The Red Hook CSA is unique among urban CSAs because the farm you invest in is right here in the community. In fact, you can go and see it: Just walk down to Columbia and Beard streets. Added Value, the local community garden/farm produces enough produce to provide community members with weekly shares. At the beginning of the season, you buy a “share” of the harvest. You can either get a full share, good for a family or two vegetarians, or a small share, which is better for couples and singles.
Unlike some CSAs, your harvest is not pre-boxed for you. Instead, you visit the CSA farmstand and choose your own vegetables based on what is included in that week’s share. Each week you take home roughly six to ten items worth $11 to $20, depending on your share option. You can also opt for fruit and egg shares.
