Uhuru’s Coney Island line won Inhabitat’s “Best In Show” Award at the 2010 BKLYN Designs show in Dumbo. They are a company committed to making the smallest impact possible. They use recycled wood from the New York area in all of their designs — the Coney Island line was actually made from the old Coney Island boardwalk — and employ low toxin, low waste processes whenever possible. They’ve been one of the darlings of the Brooklyn Design scene for quite a while and have recently outfitted the New Museum’s cafe — which is stocked by The City Bakery — with their awesome sustainable pieces.
