While rustic on the outside, each of the tree houses is adorned with luxury furnishings – mostly made with natural materials – for optimum comfort. Naturally lit and ventilated thanks to wide openings, each room comes with its own bathroom completed with such touches as a dug out canoe upcycled into a cozy tub. The entire property was once used as a hunter’s lodge before the owner, a former Belgian diplomate, converted it into a boutique hotel.

Located just minutes from the original coffee farm that once belonged to Karen Blixen, who was played by Meryl Streep in the film, Ngong House is also very close to Nairobi National Park and the renowned Giraffe Center that cares for endangered Rothschild giraffes. Visitors are even welcome to feed the gentle giants. Lastly, the cuisine is said to be out of this world as local Kenyan chefs have been trained by visiting chefs from Belgium.
