PAST AND PRESENT

It has been one banner season for designer Ada Zanditon. In the past week alone, the rising star of British fashion has feted her work at London Fashion Week’s Estethica showcase, given a mind-blowing presentation of her Spring/Summer 2011, and garnered an award.

“The Pyramora,” brings together the regal splendor of the Great Pyramids and the delicate beauty of the coral reefs.

Her latest collection, “The Pyramora,” brings together the regal splendor of the Great Pyramids and the delicate beauty of the coral reefs. “Pyramids are often portrayed as sombre dark burial chambers, but were, in fact, regarded as a vehicle of resurrection to the afterlife,” Zanditon says. “This theme is connected to modern day Egypt, where locals defy global corporations by protecting the environment and flourishing corals from over exposure to the tourist industry.”

At Estethica, Zanditon was honored with one of this season’s Ethical Fashion Forum (EFF) Innovation Awards. To mark the fifth anniversary of fair-trade-certified cotton in the U.K., the EFF teamed up with the Fairtrade Foundation to present an Innovation Award in the fair-trade cotton category. As part of her prize, which was presented by fair-trade fashion ambassador and model Laura Bailey, Zanditon will receive support from the Fairtrade Foundation and become a fair-trade licensee.
