We’ve heard the rumors before, but it appears that a wedding might actually be in the works for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Jolie, accompanied by Pitt and their son Pax, was spotted touring the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Chinese Galleries on Wednesday with a honking big diamond on that telltale left finger. Big whoop? A representative of the couple’s longtime jeweler, Robert Procop, confirmed to Us Weekly that he did indeed design an engagement ring for the celebrity juggernaut known as Brangelina. Procop acquired a “diamond of the finest quality which was then transformed using Pitt’s unique designs, cut with distinctive faceting to a shape and size that perfectly suits Angelina’s long, slender fingers,” the rep explained in a statement.

Angelina wore jewelry by Robert Procop in her 2010 movie, The Tourist.

Procop, who collaborated with Jolie on a collection of handcrafted gold pieces in 2010, claims on his website that his gold, platinum, and gemstones all come from “reputable sources.”

Robert Procop trades exclusively with countries that belong to the Kimberly Process Certification Scheme, which eschews conflict diamonds.

Where diamonds are concerned, the jeweler trades exclusively with countries that belong to the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, a process initiated by the United Nations General Assembly to prevent conflict-funding “blood diamonds” from entering the rough-diamond market.

The ring itself took a year to complete, according to the statement. More details you didn’t ask for: “Brad Pitt remained heavily involved,” the rep added, “overseeing every aspect of the creative design process from the perfect cut of the diamond centerpiece—an elongated tablet shape—to the finishing touches such as the mounting of a galaxy of smaller stones which are graduated in size and faceted to match, adding a crowning luster to the ring.”

Barring the possibility that they’re pulling a long con on the paparazzi, mazel tov, you crazy kids!

Update: Nov. 14, 2012
A spokeswoman for Pitt on Friday confirmed the pair had agreed to wed, according to Reuters. Yes, it’s confirmed,” said Pitt’s spokeswoman Cynthia Pett-Dante. “It is a promise for the future and their kids are very happy. There’s no date set at this time.”
