Adam Neeley put his jeweler’s tools aside to pull together a dress for Laguna Beach’s second annual Festival of the Arts. And not just any dress, but a floor-length flamenco gown fashioned from the pages of Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and Glamour. Inspired by all things Latina, Neeley constructed “Novella” from more than 1,000 hand-folded paper fans, which he attached to a muslin base. For the bodice, Neeley repurposed a couple of garbage bags, which he finessed into a plunging halter-neck and sprinkled with black glitter. “This was a very big sewing lesson for me. I learned how to actually follow a pattern, sew it together and use a zipper,” Neely told the Laguna Beach Independent. “Alicia [Chavex, the model] and I went through 70 to 80 fashion magazines to get the right color.”
