Biking to work is great, but biking with a bulky, goofy helmet isn’t ideal. Closca Fuga is a foldable bike helmet that provides all the protection you need for your noggin, but collapses down by 50 percent so you can store it in a purse or backpack. The Red Dot Design Award 2015 winning bike helmet is less road bike warrior, and instead a more stylish and timeless hat that will make you want to ride your bike in the morning.
“Only 12 percent of urban cyclist in the world wear a helmet,” says Carlos Ferrando, founder of Closca. “The main reasons for why they don’t are because of excessive volume, lack of portability and the urban style.” Those reasons coupled with the fact that his wife didn’t want to wear a sporty helmet when she biked to work, prompted Carlos to come up with a better option – a stylish, portable and safe bike helmet. Ferrando teamed up with The Polytechnic University of Valencia, Biomechanics Institute of Valencia, and Culdesac to design and produce the final product.
Closca Fuga, or Fuga for short, is a flat foldable helmet that can fit in your bag, allowing a rider to take it with them into the office, a restaurant or shopping without it being cumbersome. The helmet comes in white or black with a removable visor and can be accented with an aviator style insert or a wool insert for cold climates. Ferrando says, “Treating cycling as an icon itself, it has inspired us to create an honest set of helmets, where form and function coexist in a balance.” The foldable helmet is safety certified for the United States and European Union and recently was awarded a Red Dot Design Award for 2015. Closca Fuga is currently available through an IndiGoGo campaign and starts at $99 in either black or white with available upgrades.
