Trowbridge found her calling after speaking to a hand-weaver in Blue Hill, Maine, where she learned about a Kenyan sandal company that employed Masai beaders to decorate its otherwise cookie-cutter straps in creative ways. “I realized a similar custom approach to assembly-line production could be used in fashion,” she says. “Puzzle Apparel was born, named for the physical process of piecing together garment patterns like a puzzle.”

Trowbridge says she believes in the “shared value” of shoppers and makers coming together to create positive outcomes.

Fresh off a successful IndieGoGo campaign, where Puzzle donated 5 percent of its sales to microloan programs such as Accion East & Online, Trowbridge says she believes in the “shared value” of shoppers and makers coming together to create positive outcomes.

Puzzle plans to open its e-commerce website in March; meanwhile, you can preorder its debut capsule collection, which includes a camisole, two blouses, and a smoking jacket, at a discounted rate.
