These sustainable sunglasses from Dick Moby were born from an urge to address the plastic pollution in a positive way. As avid surfers and sailors, the duo behind brand – Tim Holland and Robbert Wefers Bettink- had witnessed a build-up of trash in the ocean. So during surf trips way back when they began talking about how to do something proactive. They decided to build on the idea of sunglasses created from a recycled source, what they see as “the ultimate luxury product” made using the unsustainable material. They model their designs on timeless classics and have the sunglasses handcrafted in Italy using an innovative bioplastic
“We wanted to create something beautiful out of plastic and at the same time build on a solution for the plastic pollution,” says Robbert. Frustrated with the lack of proper solutions in the press, the designers put their creativity and passion for quality and sustainability to good use. During the last year they have designed a brand new dazzling collection, made entirely from new bio-acetate and complete with ZEISS certified lenses.. Their collection of sunglasses are cool and stylish and diverse enough to appeal to a whole range of people.
So far the team’s Indiegogo campaign has really taken off, and they have received overwhelming positive responses, and international interest from all over the world. Discussing the future of Dick Moby Robbert says the collection will grow in different directions, and they will work with additional partners who will help make these recycled sunglasses possible. “For now we want to focus on sunglasses, because we believe that there is a lot still to achieve and change within this market,” he says.
