Lu Flux, London Fashion Week, Autumn/Winter 2010, Esthetica, eco-fashion, sustainable fashion, green fashion, ethical fashion

For the past seven seasons, Estethica has been the nexus of ethical, sustainable fashion at London Fashion Week. The eco-designer showcase, co-curated by Orsola de Castro and Filippo Ricci of From Somewhere and the British Fashion Council, has more than doubled its roster of talents, from 13 participants in 2006 to 28 this year.

Autumn/Winter 2010 fetes a number of emerging designers, from retro-glam time-travelers like Tara Starlet and Anatomy to avant-garde artists such as Ada Zanditon, Lu Flux, and Maxjenny. As far as wartime memes go, “make do and mend” couldn’t be more relevant for our nouveau frugal times. At the front lines of the British refashion movement: Junky Styling, Goodone, and From Somewhere.

Of course, you can’t cleave “ethical” from its cruelty-free connotations, either. Look to Ivana Basilotta for her use of vegan silk, as well as The North Circular for wooly accessories hand-knit using wool from rescued, organically raised sheep.
