The coat features 30 LEDs, tucked into the folds of diamond box pleats, that can be switched on and off with a control beneath one of the sleeves. Beyond the theatrics, however, is a practical purpose born of necessity.

The Belgian designer hasn’t had a working bicycle light in years, she tells Ecouterre. And the trouble with attachable lights is that she either loses or forgets them. “That’s why I made this coat with built-in light,” she says.
