Grown & Sewn may not be using organic cottonyet—but the fledgling menswear label is tackling sustainability from a different angle: Every stitch of its product is made in the United States using domestically sourced components, from the 100 percent American cotton to the custom copper hardware.

AMERICAN DREAM

Launched this past November by former Ralph Lauren designer Rob Magness, Grown & Sewn trumpeted its arrival with a store opening in New York City’s Tribeca district and the rollout of its first signature “Kax,” a mashup between a jean and a khaki.

Grown & Sewn’s first signature product is the “Kax,” a mashup between a jean and a khaki.

The hybrid pant, according to Magness, marries the weight, feel, and look of the perfect khaki with the fit, attitude, and “guts” of denim. It’s the kind of innovation that you can only chalk up to American ingenuity, which dovetails nicely with the company’s mission to keep every step of production in its own backyard.

PATRIOTISM WITH PURPOSE

“It is very important to me that we do everything—washes, cotton, manufacturing—right here in America,” Magness tells Ecouterre. “A couple reasons are obvious: We contribute to the living wages of Americans everywhere, and we limit the environmental impact with a lower carbon footprint.”

It’s important for Magness that everything—washes, cotton, manufacturing—is made in America.

Still, one factor stands out above the rest. “It’s the best way I know to ensure product quality,” he adds.
