She also reached out to like-minded professionals, including Study NY’s Tara St. James, who not only gave Learner her scraps but also commissioned the then-student to make two patchwork jackets for her Fall/Winter 2011 collection. The journey, the aptly named Learner discovered, was indeed the reward. “I learned, through that project, that it’s possible to employ one-of-a-kind construction technique on a full production scale.”
