PAPER CUTS

While most of us were busy folding paper planes in the schoolroom, Griffith whiled away her hours by crafting paper dolls and cardboard cars. “I even made myself a pair of sandals by cutting and wrapping paper around my little five year-old feet!” she tells Ecouterre. Fashion design was her first love, but circumstances led her into the field of graphic design, instead. That changed, however, when Xerox commissioned Griffith to create a couture gown out of recycled Xerox prints. The rest, as they say, is history.

Griffith has created—and recycled—more than 20 paper dresses that she shows in galleries and on runways.

Since then, Griffith has created—and recycled—more than 20 paper dresses that she shows on the runway, in galleries, and at photo shoots. Through her favorite medium, Griffith turns the quotidian into the fantastic. Trash, after all, is only a failure of imagination.
