What do Von Dutch, the U.S. Army, and the Phoenix Police Department all have in common? Their logos have all found their way onto Angela Johnson’s rags-to-riches couture creations. The Arizona designer creates visually dynamic clothing from thrift-store tees, much in the manner of conceptual artists like Gary Harvey and Walter Raes but eminently more ready-to-wear.

Because Johnson’s fabrics come from preloved stock, each handmade piece is completely unique, not to mention jaw-droppingly chic. Under her dextrous direction, the humble wardrobe staple is dramatically transformed into a one-shoulder ruffled corset, a voluminous bubble-hemmed caftan, a high-waisted pleated pencil skirt, or an extravagant ball gown.

You can leave the T-shirt options up to Johnson, specify their color and logo themes (sports, music, adults only), or leave nothing to chance and send her your own well-worn stash. Each garment comes with a heavily worded disclaimer, however: Sense of humor included; proceed at your own risk.
