Congratulations to Summer Rayne Oakes and Benita Singh of Source4Style and Kresse Wesling of Elvis & Kresse for triumphing at the 2011 Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards, which have rallied support for women-owned enterprises since 2006. The competition—a collective effort by French jeweler Cartier, Women’s Forum, McKinsey & Co., and business school INSEAD—named Oakes and Singh North America Laureates for their work in bringing brands, designers, and suppliers together through their online sustainable-textile-sourcing platform. Wesling was similarly honored with the title of Europe Laureate for turning decommissioned fire hoses into luxury accessories. Each winner receives $20,000, a year of business coaching, and networking opportunities. As Mark Twain once said, “Where would men be without women? Scarce, sir, mighty scarce.” Cheers to the laureates for the much-deserved recognition!
