Used freight containers aren’t just great for converting into living spaces; they make ideal portable farms too. Freight Farms transforms old shipping containers into hydroponic farms for their project titled Leafy Green Machine (LGM). The newest LGM 2015 series incorporates intuitive climate controls to ensure ideal growing environments, greater power efficiency, air/water monitoring sensors, and “Cloud Farming” controls that allow people to adjust their containers’ growing conditions and access camera systems via mobile devices. Their mission is to enable people to grow food anywhere, while reducing strain on the Earth’s soils. It’s a sustainable, connected food system that could very well be the future’s solution for food security.
