- G-Pod Dwell Shipping Container PrefabG-pod's new expandable, portable shipping container home, Dwell, is heading into production. The Australia and Hong Kong-based company has revealed that the latest addition to its range of modular transportable pods will be able to expand to almost three times its in-transit floorplan and will be able to operate either on or off the grid. G-pod also offers a transportable and expandable pop-up retail/hospitality unit called the Pop.1
- G-Pod Dwell Shipping Container PrefabSpecs reveal the amazing expansion capabilities of the unit: The original 20-foot container in transport mode has just under 12.5 square meters of internal area. The internals expand to 18 square meters and with the addition of the external areas at 16.8 square meters, the finished structure has a total footprint of 34.8 square meters.2
- G-Pod DwellTrue to its container heritage, the Dwell can be relocated anywhere a shipping container can be delivered. Once in situ, the unit takes around three hours to set up, with pack down taking the same amount of time. Setup involves manually pushing out three sides of the container, or there’s an optional push-button hydraulic system available. G-pod claims setup can be handled by one person, but we’re pretty sure many hands make lighter work!3
- G-Pod DwellThe Dwell is compact but functional and packed with features, including an office nook and a seven kilogram washing machine. All interior joinery is made from bamboo, lighting is LED, the bed is queen sized and fitted with organic cotton sheets, and water heating is an instantaneous gas service.4
- G-Pod DwellMuch of the additional space comes from the deck, which is formed by manually lowering one long side of the container. The Dwell comes complete with a compact barbecue and a lightweight aluminium outdoor bench seat, so you can relax with a cook out under the awning after setting up.5
