The newly-revealed Four Season Town Reception Center will be a beautiful center point for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Group GSA designed the building as two interlocking green-roofed volumes that mimic the surrounding slopes and ski tracks.
Located at the main entrance of the Four Seasons Resort – the closest resort to the 2022 Winter Olympics host town, Chongli, the center will be used as a hub for the activities happening at the Four-Season Town Ski Resort during the 2022 Winter Olympics. It will host 20,000 hotel beds, amenities, a help desk and information point.
The architects drew on the theme, Fire and Ice, to represent the resort’s two major tourist seasons, capturing the dramatic temperature changes that the area experiences – from icy winter to hot summer– through its façade design. This dynamic shape allows for visitors to be part of an internal experience through different levels of connection with the natural landscape, while enjoying the sunset and panoramic views of the mountain. A clear open path will guide visitors through various exhibition spaces that celebrate the history and culture of Chongli.
The project received final approval and is currently under construction. It is scheduled for completion in December 2018.
