When most people think of the products created from the forestry industry, it’s usually items such as wooden furniture that come to mind. After all, forests are made of trees, and trees = wood, right? Well, yes… but they also provide so much more, especially as far as non-timber materials are concerned. Various tree species are cultivated and harvested to produce everything from natural rubber to cinnamon sticks, and chances are that several items around you right now aresecondary materials from the forestry industry. Edible items (nuts! maple syrup!), cosmetic ingredients (shea butter and argan oil), and medicinal components (tea tree oil, benzoin) are just a few spectacular materials that trees provide us with, so let’s take a moment to check out this infographic and think about how important sustainable forestryreally is.
