The world’s population is increasing by leaps and bounds, and it’s estimated that by the year 2050, farms will need to produce around 1,200,000,000 tonnes of food in order to keep everyone fed. This will require a tremendous amount of work, andnew robotic technologiesare being developed to ensure that demands will be met, as these robots can plant and harvest with much greater precision and efficiency than human workers. Is removing the human element in the farming industry the best way to maximize production and efficiency? Will lightweight robotic machinesreally enable us to cut down on pesticide use, soil erosion, and seedling damage? Or will they eliminate countless tasks that would otherwise provide our growing population with employment opportunities? What do you think?
