At Inhabitots we love innovative playhouse designs, and when they are built to raise money for a great cause as they were in the Kids Undercover Cubby House Challenge at the 2011 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, it doubles our delight. Earlier this month, leading Australian builders and architects were invited to design, build and donate a children’s cubby house (the Aussie’s term for playhouse) to raise money for a local program called Kids Undercover, which supports homeless and at risk children.
The highly creative children’s cubby designs were displayed for 5 days at the 2011 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, culminating in one being raffled and the rest auctioned off on the final day of the Show. We particularly liked the very funky Milkbar made from brightly colored reusable and recyclable milk crates. The natural timber and green striped Open House with a drop down draw bridge door and grass lined ceiling was also a standout, in addition to The Glow House which emits a soft glow at night and draws in the natural light during the day.
