Last weekend we pulled all of our holiday decorations out of storage and spent a weekend afternoon decking the halls. It is always so much fun to get those boxes out, as they are full of so many happy memories. One of my favorite things about the holidays is opening the box that houses all of the special ornaments that my son has made over the years. It's fun to see handmade snowmen, photo ornaments with a toothless grin smiling back at me and countless others.
This year, like every year before we spend many afternoons crafting ornaments together. I have collected some of my favorites to share with you this holiday season. My hope is that these 6 simple recycled ornament projects that you can make with your children will inspire you to bond over crafting with your little ones. Make a pot of hot cocoa, put your favorite holiday music on and hit the recycling bin and craft closet to gather your supplies and start making some holiday memories this weekend!
#1: Bottle cap Snowmen
I have to admit, snowmen are hands down my favorite decoration for the holidays. I love their simplicity, playfulness and charm – and these bottle cap snowmen will be the perfect addition to your children’s handmade ornaments!
#2: Cork Christmas Trees
If you collect wine corks and you’re looking for the perfect holiday project to use them on – these cork Christmas trees are for you! My son and I had a blast making these in an array of colors and we hang them not only on our tree, but the doorknobs throughout our home as well.
#3: Glitter Animals
Is your child’s bedroom floor littered with tiny plastic toy animals? If so, grab a handful and a few supplies and transform them into cute, sparkly, ornaments. Wouldn’t these be perfect on a child’s tabletop Christmas tree?
#4: Big Eyed Owls
These recycled felt owls are the perfect addition to any Christmas tree. You can add any type of found embellishments you would like to make your owl unique.
#5: Button Christmas Trees
I have finally found the perfect craft for that large jar of colorful buttons in my craft closet. I love that these can be customized to your child’s liking, and that the color possibilities are endless. So fun!
