Now that Christmas has come and gone, there's probably one treat still lingering in your living room. Candy canes. It seems that no matter how hard I try to give them all away, we always end up with a bunch of them at the end of the holiday season. This year, I didn't want to put them in the pantry only to collect dust until I threw them away in March. Instead I decided to find new ways to incorporate them into sweets that my family enjoys all year round. Here are my top five recipes made better when a little peppermint candy cane powder is added to the mix. Note: eating organic and/or natural candy canes that do not contain harmful red food dye is the healthiest choice. If you will be purchasing candy canes to make these treats instead of using leftovers, we highly recommend TruJoy candy canes.
How to Get Started
Ask your children to collect all of the leftover candy canes. Then have them unwrap each one, breaking them into smaller pieces.
Grind the Pieces
Place all of the smaller broken pieces into the food processor and chop until you have a slightly chunky powder.
