As a busy mom who is constantly on the go, I know how hard it is to find time to plan a healthy menu of dinners for the week. You may be familiar with Mark Bittman’s bestselling cookbook, How to Cook Everything. It’s one of my family’s favorite cookbooks and I just found out there is a How to Cook Everthing app for your iPhone or iPad. With the app, you instantly have more than 2,000 recipes, 400 how-to illustrations, and hundreds of menu ideas right at your fingertips.
The How to Cook Everything app has a simple-to-use search functionality, which allows me to find menus based on what I have on hand from my purchases at this morning farmer’s market to the abundance of tomatoes we had in our garden all summer, or to drum up a new recipe idea for a vegetarian dish.
Since, my husband does the majority of the cooking in our home, I can use the app to learn the basics of cooking the next time I need to poach an egg or make vegetable stock in his absence. And I can use the built-in timer, so I won’t burn this week’s batch of cookies.
The best part of the ‘How to Cook Everything’ app is it’s ability to convert any of the recipes into a shopping list, which can emailed to my husband who does our weekly shopping. He can also add to the list so it includes all of the items for all of the meals he’ll be preparing for the week.
In short, the ‘How to Cook Everything’ app is your one stop cookbook, menu organizer, shopping list and cooking class all rolled up into one. Now that is an app every busy family can use.
