Strawberries are now in season thanks to our extra mild winter. I love cooking with fresh strawberries, especially making homemade jam. This strawberry jam recipe is delicious with PB&J's, homemade pop-tarts, biscuits, and toast with cream cheese or brie. If you don't like using sugar, you can substitute for 3/4 cup of honey or agave.
What You Need for Organic Strawberry Jam
- 1 1/2 pints organic strawberries
- 1 cup organic cane sugar
- 2 tablespoons organic lemon juice or 1 whole lemon
Step 1: Cut Strawberries
Step 2: Make syrup
Step 3: Cook Strawberries
Over low heat, cook the strawberries with the syrup mixture. I usually let simmer for 30-45 minutes. To check and make sure it is ready, pour a tiny amount on a plate and put in the freezer for 3 minutes. If it gels, then it is ready.
Step 4: Blend Strawberries and Sauce
Step 5: Jar The Jam
Pour your blended jam into a glass jar and seal. Let sit for 5 hours and then store in fridge. You can also serve warm if you want. Enjoy!
