Looking for a fun, eco-friendly Easter craft to do with your kids? You can make adorable recycled bunnies and chicks from egg cartons you have in your recycling bin! This is a perfect project for preschoolers and older to make (some kids will need your help) and the bunnies and chicks will be a super cute addition to your Easter table display.

Supplies Needed for Chick:
- Scissors
- Egg carton cut into individual egg cups
- Yellow paint and paint brush
- Sandpaper or file
- 2 shades of yellow paper
- Glue
- Black marker
Step 1: Smooth the Carton
File down the egg carton cups to give them a smooth shape. This helps with any uneven shapes or cutting mistakes. It’s ok if your shell isn’t perfect. I noticed that egg cartons all have different shapes, so they may not be perfect when first cutting. After your carton cups are smooth, go ahead and paint them yellow. Let dry.
Step 2: Create the Chick
While your egg cartons dry, draw and cut out your chick wings, beak and feet. You will need to fold your wings to attach to the body, so make sure you leave room for that. Your beak is a diamond shape that you fold in the middle. The feet will fold under the body as well.
Step 3: Glue it All Together
After your chick bodies have dried, you can add the beak, wings and feet. You will fold the wings and feet to glue them to the body. Then add the beak. To finish your chick, use a marker to add 2 black eyes.
Supplies Needed for Bunny:
- Scissors
- Sandpaper or file
- Egg carton (pink if you can find one) cut into individual egg cups
- Pink paper
- 2 white pom poms for a tail and nose (1 large, 1 tiny)
- Glue
- Black marker
How to Make the Bunny
The Easter bunny is really easy to make once you’ve made the chick – just follow the same basic process. First make sure you are using sanded egg carton cups like the chicks. Then cut the pink paper to make ears and feet. Glue the bunny ears on at the back of the bunny body. Fold the feet under the body of the bunny and then glue. Add the pom pom nose and tail. Then, use a black marker to add the eyes and paws.
