One of the reasons that children find Halloween so exciting is because there is something unusual and unexpected behind every corner. Once the trick-or-treaters have strolled past your homemade, recycled yard cemetery and meandered up your coffee bag Jack o' Lantern lined sidewalk, greet them with super-spooky window silhouettes that you made yourself. Our 30-minute project is made using nothing more than a roll of recycled paper and eco-friendly paint. Another plus: these window silhouettes are reusable. Simply remove them after Halloween, roll them up and store them until next year. Read on to learn how to make these spooky Halloween silhouettes with your little ones just in time for Halloween night.
What you will need:
- roll of recycled paper
- eco-friendly black paint
Step 1: Measure and Cut
Measure each of the windows that you will be creating silhouettes for and cut the paper so that it completely covers all of the window.
Step 2: Pick a Spooky Scene
There are many great options available for spooky scenes – ghosts, witch, bats etc; You can choose scenes that are less scary for the younger set. If you are choosing a spooky silhouette, have your child lay on the paper to get some ideas for spooky poses.
Step 3: Create the Spooky Scene
You can either draw a spooky scene free-hand, or trace your child laying on the paper. (This is the option that we chose) You could also use a projector to project a spooky scene and trace it onto the paper.
Step 4: Paint
Using eco-friendly paint and paintbrushes, paint the silhouette in with black paint.
Step 5: Let It Dry
Let the window silhouette completely dry and then hang it up on any window in your home, turn on a light behind the silhouette for a huge Halloween impact.
Step 6: Spook the Trick-or-Treaters
If you have older children, you can always make your window decals a little scarier too. Watch with ghoulish delight as trick or treaters, neighbors and friends get spooked by your haunted Halloween window decals.
