Grab some yarn and get creative with the kidlets by making your very own woolen sheep-friends! Shaun’s Pompom Parade is part of the Join the Flock participatory arts project that began in Cumbria, UK, in the spring of 2011 — in which people from across the UK were encouraged to contribute their handmade woolen pompon sheep to the art installation flock coordinated by Eden Arts. There’s a new project that’s in full swing now, in support of The Campaign for Wool, whose mission is “to educate as many people as possible about the incredible benefits and versatility of wool in fashion, furnishings and everyday life… in turn, support(ing) many small businesses and local farmers whose livelihoods depend on the wool industry.” The goal is to create the largest collection of handmade pompom sheep ever… and you can be part of the fun!

Just download the free, official Pompom Pattern-Making Kit and create your very own sheep to add to the flock. Pompoms are amazingly easy to make, and kids of all ages can participate in crafting their own unique, individual sheep. Your little baa-baas will get to meet and frolic with others from all corners of the globe, in all the colors of the rainbow.

Once you have your very own sheep to share (and don’t hesitate to make as many as you’d like!), be sure to pop them in the mail before March 1st, 2013 to be part of this World Record attempt.
