Look! It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s… a box. Before toys became super high-tech and five-year-olds walked around with iPhones and iPads, children typically played with the box that packaged their birthday gift. We’re completely head-over-heels about Makedo’s Box Props concept that makes playing with traditional boxes a thing again. The creative-play company offers a range of props that help kids transform household boxes into monsters, pets, people, robots and even vehicles. No more breaking down packages to hand off to the recycling bin. Yesterday’s trash can once again provide your children endless opportunities to step away from the tablet and into a realm of discovery.
Box Props feature a series of kits that comes with easy to use Scru parts. The Scrus—kid-friendly cardboard screws designed from polypropylene, re-usable and recyclable—help to attach the props to your box and are designed for small hands. Props offer ready to use cut outs and illustrations that kids will enjoy customizing with crayons or markers (not supplied). The Boxes come in Face and Transport ranges for interactive play in creating everything from pets and people to airplanes and fire engines. There’s even a Gangnam Style face prop that kids will love.
Prices start at $10 for a People or Face kit and $15 for a Transport kit. There are also “Make Anything Kits” featuring a variety of Scrus and pieces which are priced from $25 – $60. Each kit comes with a set of plastic props and instructions to help guide your little ones through their creative endeavor. Box Props are perfect for guided instruction or independent discovery for ages 3 and up.
